INS KINo

ABOUT

Ins Kino is the musical project of Raleigh, N.C.-based songwriter, Evan Farkas. Since 2019, Farkas has released two EP’s under the Ins Kino name and curated his music into a dynamic live act, playing solo as well as in variations of a four-piece composed of himself and Triangle stalwarts Kenny Florence (Annuals, Sunfold), Thomas McNeely (Jenny Besetzt, Cor de Lux), and Mike Robinson (Annuals, Sunfold, Lonnie Walker). Unique, layered, and stylish, Ins Kino’s melodies are reminiscent of the Great American Songbook, blended with chamber pop flourishes and punchy, understated percussion.

“Ins Kino does a great job tipping his hat to certain legends while paving a way for his own signature sound. It’s cohesive and feels fully realized. I would say this is one of the best releases so far this year…”

 - MATT JENSON, PITCH PERFECT

“He sounds like an artist plucked from a bygone era, and yet there’s nothing dated or dull about his output — quite to the contrary, his colorful artistry is vibrant and powerful.”

 Buzzslayers

“...I heard elements of early Bowie influence from the ‘70s. Lyrically, the way in which Ins Kino cleverly wrote words that most people, I think, would not recognize in a pop song to describe the goings-on at a 1920s Bauhaus Party, reminds me a lot of how Morrissey, or even Robert Smith, (yes, those two British frontman rivals), write their songs. In other words, Farkas uses a lot of descriptive words in a very imaginative and original way. Poetic, yet telling a complete story in just over four minutes.”
